The CO₂Solidaire initiative suggests to individuals and companies to voluntarily compensate for their unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions.  This voluntary compensation scheme allows the co financing of development projects in countries of the South aimed at:

• Improving the living conditions of the people;
• Preserving and increasing the value of natural resources;
• Protecting the climate by reductions in CO₂ emissions;
• Local Economic Development of the areas where GERES is working.

All these development programs are implemented on a long term basis in the field by GERES with the help of its local offices.  They are implemented in partnership with local agencies (associations, communities, individuals...) to guarantee the long term continuity of these initiatives, an essential condition for "sustainable" development.

Created in collaboration with the concerned populations, all the projects take into account the training of the local agencies and the economic opportunities that energy efficiency and renewable energies can offer to a region.

These projects address essential issues in the health, environment, education and economis sectors. They aim to bring a sustainable economic alternative to the population,  while respecting the specific xonditions in each country.
