Our ethic
The voluntary carbon compensation scheme of CO2Solidaire upholds a particular ethic.
We don't claim to set the exact moral standard end complete ethical code for alle the compensation sector. We consider that every one should define their own ethics and stand for them.
Ours is defined by :
- By ourselves, upholding the principles we advocate.
In two words Climate Solidarity! Actually, we reduce our own emissions on the basis of a commitment charter and by precise and measured means for all of our activities producing GHG emissions and we also compensate those of the head office of GERES. In 2009, this compensation reached 145 (tCO2e).
- The Choice of Our Partners
We insist on and check the reduction at source of GHG emissions by our business partners. The aim is to combat the purchasing of conscience for profit...at the price of conscience. Also, CO2Solidaire refuses to work with companies whose activities are based on the over consumption of fossil fuels (motorsport, private jet companies...) or with activities that are not eco friendly.
- Projects Offered for Compensation
The primary objective of these CO2 saving projects is to improve the living conditions of the local population. CO2Solidaire doesn't propose to compensate at all costs, but to address the human issues in the countries of the South, especially vis à vis climate change. We promote compensation that goes beyond the purely environmental dimension.
- Communications
We are very careful when talking about compensation and about the message we are sending out. For example, CO2Solidaire encourages its partners not just to claim for any carbon neutrality but instead to concentrate on a greater rigor and transparency in their reduction at source. Synonymous with "climatic impunity ", we feel "carbon neutrality" doesn't send the proper message.
