An agent in the field

CO2Solidaire depends entirely on the NGO GERES.  It is a program in its own right.  Its aim is not to sell carbon credits at any price, but rather to promote the activities of GERES and the issues and principles for which it stands: the reduction of poverty, the fight against energy shortages, Justice and Climate Solidarity.

GERES implements more than 40 development programs in 12 African and Asian countries.

The CO2Solidaire program has the benefit of the 35 years of experience of GERES in countries of the South, combining knowledge of the local context, professionalism and transparency.

A presence in the field via our local offices

To carry out its mission, GERES has permanent representatives in France and in 9 countries of the South.  They are in charge of directing programs with our local partners.

The local teams of GERES have multiple competences and are multicultural.  GERES wishes to limit the number of expatriates in order to strengthen the integration of local agencies.  So, of 190 associates of GERES, about 130 are local contracts.

A Pioneer in Accessing Carbon Finance

In 2005, GERES was the first French NGO to gain access to carbon finance schemes for its development projects.  It was the opportunity for the large scale distribution of improved cooking equipment in Cambodia which made GERES take an interest in alternative and innovative financing.

> For GERES, carbon finance is not an end but a means to allow a maximum number of people to benefit from proven energy solutions during a preliminary phase.
