An association specialized in implementing development and cooperation projects, both in France and in countries of the South, GERES works to improve the living conditions of the poorest populations, particularly by reducing their lack of energy security. GERES integrates environmental conservation into its programs and tries to limit climate change and its consequences.
So GERES has developed the innovative principle of climate solidarity. It combines two complementary and inseparable approaches :
- The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the North.
- Support for populations in the South faced with climate change.
For CO2Solidaire, carbon compensation must be included in this principle in order for it to be fully consistent and to go beyond a "simple" environmental dimension.
GERES' approach to climate solidarity is to combine all aspects of the fight against climate change, beginning with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the North and promoting sustainable development solutions in the countries of the South.
